Aryeh Shander, MD,  is Chief of Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Pain Management, and Hyperbaric Medicine, Executive Medical Director of The Institute for Patient Blood Management and Bloodless Medicine and Surgery, and serves as Clinical Research Director for TEAMHealth Anesthesia at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Shander is also a clinical professor of anesthesiology, medicine & surgery at Mount Sinai. Dr. Shander is board certified in internal medicine, anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and undersea and hyperbaric medicine. He specializes in acute care for critically ill or injured patients and is regarded as one of the pioneers of patient blood management and bloodless medicine. Dr. Shander is the author/editor of multiple book chapters and contributes to textbooks on blood management. He is a member of several national societies including past president of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management and a fellow of both the American College of Critical Care Medicine and American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Shander is also a founding member of the National Anemia Action Council Board of Directors and Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists. He lectures internationally on a variety of topics related to anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and patient blood management. Dr. Shander’s publications have appeared in several prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals, and he is a member and contributing editor of several journal editorial boards.
