The Englewood Health Leslie Simon Breast Care and Cytodiagnosis Center, established as the first NAPBC-accredited breast center in New Jersey in 2009, continues to uphold its distinction as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. We are also honored to have been recognized by the U.S. Congress as a national model for the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.
Our fellowship program is uniquely positioned within the Cancer Center at Englewood Health, a high-performing community hospital that offers the full spectrum of resources found at a large academic medical center—but within a more intimate, personalized, and patient-centered setting. We pride ourselves on a highly sophisticated yet individualized approach to patient care, combining academic rigor with the warmth and accessibility of a smaller institution.
Englewood Health serves a richly diverse population across northern New Jersey and the greater New York metropolitan area, drawing from a catchment area of over one million people. This diversity enhances the breadth and depth of clinical experience for our fellows, who care for patients from a wide range of cultural, socioeconomic, and medical backgrounds. The Breast Center performs over 35,000 screening mammograms annually and diagnoses more than 400 breast cancers each year, in addition to managing a broad spectrum of benign breast conditions.
Our Faculty

Research Opportunities
The Breast Surgery Fellow will receive personalized mentorship to support the completion of at least one abstract submission and one manuscript during the fellowship year. Dedicated weekly research time is built into the fellow’s schedule, integrated alongside clinical rotations to promote sustained scholarly activity.
Numerous opportunities for clinical research are available, tailored to align with the fellow’s specific interests. Fellows will gain foundational knowledge in research methodology, including study design, data collection and analysis, and the ethical principles guiding human subjects research.
Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in ongoing national clinical trials, including patient identification, enrollment, and follow-up. Robust support is provided by the dedicated clinical research team at the Cancer Center, ensuring a strong infrastructure for successful academic and investigative pursuits.
Clinical Rotations
Over the course of the year, the Breast Surgery Fellow will complete multiple dedicated rotations in breast surgical oncology, gaining in-depth experience in the operative and multidisciplinary management of both malignant and benign breast disease. In addition, the fellow will have dedicated time with the plastic surgery team, focusing on breast reconstruction and collaborative care planning.
To ensure a comprehensive, multidisciplinary education, the fellowship also includes structured rotations in radiation oncology, medical oncology, breast imaging, pathology, high-risk genetics, psycho-oncology, integrative medicine, and rehabilitation medicine. A dedicated clinical research rotation allows for focused academic work and project development.
Experiences in community outreach and service are also embedded in the curriculum, supporting the fellow’s growth as a compassionate, equity-minded physician equipped to serve a diverse patient population.
Meetings and Conferences
The Breast Surgery Fellow will actively participate in weekly multidisciplinary breast tumor board meetings and regularly scheduled journal clubs, fostering critical discussion and collaboration across specialties.
In addition, the fellow will engage in recurring didactic lecture series led by clinical directors, aligned with their current rotations, to deepen knowledge in each subspecialty area.
Fellows are expected to attend the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Fellows Institute and the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) Annual Meeting. They will also be encouraged to submit and present at least one abstract or publication at a national conference of their choice, with mentorship and support provided throughout the process.
