Englewood Hospital Receives Healthgrades’ 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award

March 10, 2026 — Englewood Hospital has been named a top hospital in the U.S. for patient safety by Healthgrades, an online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.

In receiving the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award, Englewood Hospital ranks among the top 5% of all short-term acute care hospitals evaluated by Healthgrades.

“Every decision we make begins with one question: Is this the safest, best care for our patients?” said Kathleen Kaminsky, MS, RN, NE-BC, senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer. “This award is a powerful affirmation of the culture we’ve built — one where vigilance, teamwork, and accountability come together to protect our patients and deliver care they can trust.”

From 2022 through 2024, 167,228 preventable safety events occurred among Medicare patients at U.S. hospitals. Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award were, on average*:

  • 52.4% less likely to experience an in-hospital fall resulting in fracture
  • 57.5% less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure in or around the chest
  • 67.8% less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital
  • 71.9% less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital

"The data behind this year’s Patient Safety Excellence Award highlights how measurable improvements in safety can prevent thousands of complications,” said Dr. Alana Biggers, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “By prioritizing evidence-based safety practices, Englewood Health is achieving better clinical outcomes and cultivating a culture where patients come first.”
