Englewood Health EMS Earns Fifth Consecutive CAAS Accreditation

One of only four EMS programs in New Jersey and 188 worldwide to achieve this important distinction

July 17, 2026 — Englewood Health’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has earned its fifth consecutive accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), reaffirming its commitment to delivering the highest standards of emergency medical care. Englewood Health EMS is one of only four programs in New Jersey and 188 worldwide to hold this prestigious voluntary accreditation.

CAAS accreditation is considered the gold standard for ambulance services, recognizing organizations that demonstrate excellence in patient care, safety, leadership, and continuous quality improvement.

“This recognition is a reflection of the incredible people who make up our EMS team,” said Richard Sposa, MA, NRP, MICP, director of EMS/emergency preparedness at Englewood Health. “Achieving our fifth consecutive CAAS accreditation is an incredible honor. It reflects the professionalism, clinical expertise, and unwavering commitment our team brings to every patient, every call, and every day.”

The reaccreditation follows a comprehensive, multi-day on-site evaluation. The assessment included clinical care, operational and leadership practices, education, quality improvement, safety programs, fleet and equipment, and regulatory compliance. Surveyors also interviewed staff, reviewed hundreds of records, and observed operations to ensure continued compliance with CAAS’s rigorous standards.

During each of its two most recent reaccreditation surveys—including this year’s review—Englewood Health EMS received zero deficiencies or deviations from CAAS accreditation standards, an exceptionally rare accomplishment.

“Emergency medical care begins long before a patient reaches the hospital, and the quality of that care can have a profound impact on outcomes,” said Barbara Schreibman, MD, medical director of EMS and associate chief of emergency medicine at Englewood Hospital. “This accreditation affirms that our EMS professionals consistently deliver care that meets the highest national standards. It is a tremendous achievement and a testament to their unwavering commitment to the patients and communities they serve.”
