Visiting Hours and Policy

The following guidelines are in effect as of Monday, April 29, 2024.

General Inpatient Visitation

  • Two visitors at a time are allowed.
  • Visiting hours are 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (note exceptions for specific units below).
  • Visitors should stay home if experiencing any respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Visitors must check in and out in the lobby.

For special circumstances only, please contact the nurse manager/supervisor on the appropriate floor.

Exceptions and Additional Restrictions  

On units with exceptions and additional restrictions, nursing staff will provide further details to patients and visitors.

  • Labor & Delivery: One support person allowed. In addition, a second support person or doula is permitted.
  • Mother/Baby: One support person and one doula allowed from arrival to time of discharge. Two additional visitors will be permitted at one time between 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Siblings are permitted to visit.
  • NICU: Mother and support person (identified with a NICU wristband) may visit together at the bedside of the infant except during nursing shift change (6:30 – 7:30 a.m. and p.m.). One visitor at a time over the age of 18 may visit when accompanied by mother or support person (identified with a NICU wristband) during regular hospital visiting hours; maximum of 2 people permitted at the bedside at a time. 
  • Pediatrics: Two parents may visit at one time, and one parent may stay overnight. Exceptions may be considered based on the child’s condition. Arrangements should be made through the nurse manager or supervisor.
  • Intensive Care Unit: Visiting hours are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Behavioral Health (4 East): Permission for up to 2 visitors per day is granted at the discretion of the care team. Visitation will be limited to one hour by appointment only from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. Visitors should contact the unit nurse manager or patient’s primary nurse to schedule (201-894-3142).
  • COVID-19 Patients: Visitation is by appointment only and must be approved by and arranged with the nurse manager/supervisor.
  • Hospice/End-of-Life: Exceptions for extended hours will be considered. Arrangements should be made through the unit nurse manager or patient’s primary nurse to schedule. 

Outpatients

  • Emergency Department (ED): Emergency Department patients may have two visitors. If a patient is admitted from the ED outside of visiting hours, one visitor may escort the patient to the inpatient unit to get settled. Visiting hours as described above would apply based on unit.
  • All other outpatients (surgical/procedural areas, EHPN physician offices, and diagnostic/therapeutic services) may have two support people.

All visitors must follow all instructions from the patient’s care team and may be asked to leave at any time if not complying with those instructions or otherwise in the interest of safety.
